What Are Recurring Tasks?
Recurring tasks automatically create new task instances on a schedule you define. Perfect for:
- Daily routines and chores
- Weekly responsibilities
- Monthly check-ins
- Any task that repeats regularly
✓ Recurring vs Templates vs Rituals
Recurring Tasks: Auto-create on schedule, normal task tracking.
Templates: Manual creation, no schedule.
Rituals: Recurring with streak tracking and special visualization.
Use rituals for meaningful practices; recurring tasks for regular chores.

How Recurring Tasks Work
Task Creation
The system automatically creates new task instances:
- Created at the start of each period (configurable)
- Or created when previous instance is completed
- Each instance is independent
Completion
When you complete a recurring task:
- That instance is marked complete
- Next instance is created (if scheduled)
- Points awarded for each completion
Overdue Behavior
If a recurring task goes overdue:
- The overdue instance remains until completed or skipped
- New instances continue to be created on schedule
- You may have multiple pending instances
⚠ Overdue Stacking
If recurring tasks go uncompleted, they can stack up. Complete or skip overdue tasks regularly to keep your task list manageable.

Best Practices
Start Small
Begin with a few essential recurring tasks. Add more once those become routine.
Realistic Schedules
Don't overload with daily tasks. Consider what's actually achievable.
Appropriate Due Times
Set due times that make sense for the task. Morning tasks due in the morning, evening tasks due at night.
Regular Review
Periodically review your recurring tasks:
- Are they still relevant?
- Is the schedule working?
- Should any become rituals?
- Should any be paused or ended?
✓ Converting to Rituals
If a recurring task represents a meaningful practice you want to track with streaks, consider converting it to a ritual. Edit the task and enable "Mark as Ritual" to get streak tracking and special visualization.
